A Camera on the Somme 1916-1919 - Jan 23rd to Mar 21st
In World War I, brothers Jack and Bert Grinton from central Victoria found themselves serving in the trenches of France
and Belgium. 90 years later, more than 1,500 negatives and photographs taken by Jack and Bert were discovered inside a biscuit tin stored for decades in a shed on the Grinton farm. The images were taken by the brothers with the cameras they carried with them – against all regulations – during the war. This collection is a unique addition to the historical record, capturing people and places often overlooked by official war photographs whilst also highlighting the
development and artistry of amateur photography. A Bendigo Art Gallery Travelling Exhibition.
